ORC — Master Bedroom Makeover // Week 5 Update

DIY

We’re in the home stretch! And it’s probably just the paint fumes getting to my head, but I swear I can hear the design gods singing. This challenge has not only tested my DIY skills, but also my patience, my multitasking abilities, and my attention span. With less than a week left—and a couple of tasks still to cross off my to-do list—I’m barreling toward to finish line, full speed ahead!

You can see how far this room has come in just 30 days in these posts:

10/1 — October Mood Board — Moody Master Bedroom
10/3 — ONE ROOM CHALLENGE — Master Bedroom Makeover! (Week 1)
10/10 — Week 2 Update
10/17 — Week 3 Update
10/24 — Week 4 Update
10/31 — Week 5 Update
11/7 — Final Reveal! (Week 6)

It’s crazy that just 30 days ago I was living the apartment equivalent of a padded room. There was no color, no texture, and no useable storage. Today though, things are looking up!

Modern Moody Bedroom Bookcase Wardrobe DIY

The big project I (mostly) finished this week was my wardrobe storage unit across from my bed. You can read all about my struggles and triumphs from that project in this post. Still to come is a wood ledge that will cover the entire top of the bookcases, making the wardrobe appear seamless. My mom got me this ridiculously awesome mini circular saw as an early birthday gift and I can’t wait to try it out on this project!

Back on the main side of the bedroom…I finally found a rug that works with the wall pattern AND the carpet. Third time’s the charm right? The look you see here today is sponsored by multiple Wayfair purchases, just as many sales of said purchases on Facebook Marketplace, and one boyfriend that’s extremely over lifting our giant bed while I swap rugs underneath. Ha! But ya know what? It was totally worth it.

Speaking of the bed, I think I may have finally gotten the spread right. The duvet cover is a light grey/cream color that plays nicely with the colors in the rug AND doesn’t look weird on top of the white sheets—major score! The pillows are also stacking nicely and the bed just looks so inviting that I’m tempted to nap every time I enter the room.

Flanking the bed, I hung some DIY IKEA pendants above the nightstands. I”m loving the touch of an industrial vibe they’re giving the room, but still have to figure out the best way to attach the hanging cord to the wall. I’m walking a thin line between the rustic, industrial look and maintaining a clean, modern look.

Don’t worry, I swear those frames will be filled soon! Also, on my list to complete over the next couple days is…

  • Shop for materials
  • Paint walls black
  • Add accent to black walls?
  • Hang pendant lights
  • Assemble bookcases
  • Build doors for bookcases
  • Add cord management
  • Storage solutions for inside cabinets
  • Add pulls to nightstands
  • Build laundry cabinet
  • Lay rug
  • Hang art/frames/gallery wall?
  • Hang mirror
  • Add plants & style
  • Swap bedding
  • Install new bed
  • Build headboard
  • Add wood plank top to bookcases

Yup, that’s right! Only FOUR items left to complete in what has been the longest, busiest, most, well—challenging, Challenge of my life. I cannot wait to show you all the final room with everything set up and in it’s place! See you all in a couple days!!
