Life, Design, & All Things Home

I’ve loved houses for as long as I can remember. Everything about them. From shiny hardwood floors, to giant cozy couches, to mantels full of picture-perfect memories. Growing up, I spent countless hours creating everything from small bungalows to huge mansions on my Sims games. In fact, most of the time, I spent so much time decorating the Sims’ houses that I never actually played the game.

When I was 7 years old, without even realizing it, I completed my first ever design project: my bedroom. It was dark pink with light pink accents (because what goes better with pink than pink, duh) and had zebra print everywhere. I even hand painted a zebra striped border around my entire room. Glam, meet safari. It basically looked like a glamping pad before ‘glamping’ was even a thing.

At 12 years old, I made my mom take me with her on every walk through and open house as we got ready to move to a new city. Our realtor laughed in a mixture of shock and amusement as I noted things like “love the two-story ceilings” and “spacious Jack & Jill bathroom”.

Now, at 23, I’ve designed and styled nine different bedrooms and six apartments of my own. (Yes, you read that correctly, 6 apartments. I’m always on the hunt for a blank slate to start my next design project haha). After decorating countless spaces for friends, family, and clients, I launched Kayla Simone Home to help others create spaces they’re happy to come home to everyday.

As I said, I love houses, but my love for houses extends beyond beautiful white kitchens and finding the perfect side table. I love the feeling you get when you walk into a space and feel completely at ease. I love everything about what makes a house feel like a home. So to make sure my design projects always end with that feeling, I have three rules when it comes to decorating. The only catch is, you’ll have to follow along to find out what they are. Check back here every Wednesday & Sunday to learn my secrets for creating a space you love, plus more design tips, DIYs tutorials, and my advice on all things home.

In the meantime, check out my design services and get started making your house feel like home!
